Online security, do you trust where your personal data is stored?
In times of a recession, online fraud increases (CIFAS ‘Fraud trends and recession go hand in hand’) but most online users, although aware of Internet threats, have a gap in understanding them.
Foviance’s research commissioned by Oracle, was conducted to better understand the extent to which online security measures impact customers; sometimes websites go down after you’ve entered credit card details which can create a bad customer experience and essentially lower the brand value and hamper sales.
A third of those surveyed claimed that they do not trust online security measures. Marty Carroll said “Low consumer confidence impacts revenue generation, but the inverse is also true: good security that increases confidence without creating further hassle, driving sales.”
There needs to be a balance in security and convenience to avoid bad habits, “Our research shows that smart retailers and their technology partners have an opportunity to build security into their value proposition, and in doing so, foster customer loyalty and increase revenue,” added Mr Carroll.
eCommerce websites are conscious not to hamper the user experience of their sites and also offer the best security measures.
