PID/PII

PID/PII: Personally identifiable data or information

Personally identifiable data or information refers to information that identifies an individual, including name, address, phone number(s), location.

A breach of PID refers to this data being available inadvertently to people who should not have access to it, which may be through use of tracking software, spyware, or lax data policies that enabled hackers to steal records – or technology systems that inadvertently allow sharing (as happened recently to Facebook and Zynga -2010)
