Foviance's glossary contains definitions and explanations of many of the terms related to user experience, usability, accessibility and analytics.
Automated testing
Automated testing allows us to conduct user experience studies online with a large sample of our clients target audience.
Studies provide in-depth user experience research over the Internet by inviting a large sample of website visitors to participate in a study or alternatively by recruiting a panel of users that meet the sites target audience and inviting them to participate in a study via an email invitation.
Automated tool track the users as they navigate the websites and asks questions in context about their experience. They measure both attitudes and behaviours in the context of realistic online scenarios. This approach has many advantages over both traditional lab usability testing (think aloud protocol) and standard online surveys.
In the first case it can target far larger and geographically dispersed samples than would be possible in lab testing (yielding quantifiable results) while it is much more powerful than an online survey in that it captures not just attitudinal data but also the all-important behavioural data.
